“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience

in which you really stop to look fear in the face.”
Eleanor Roosevelt

The above quote is one that has been one of my motivators during my time at George Mason University. As a very reserved person, just applying to a school hours away from home was a huge leap for me. After making known my intent to attend GMU, I wondered if I could really do it. I wondered if I was cut out to be hours from home, surrounded by strangers, and now having to look after myself. No one would wake me up for school. No one would remind me to do my homework.

Freshman year meant making friends when I came to school with just one.

Sophomore year meant applying for  job doing something far out of my comfort zone.

Junior year meant auditioning for a dance team when I hadn’t danced in over a year. It meant pursuing a membership in an organization with other young women that I had never meant.

My entire college career has been a series of great risk and even greater reward. As a leader, I hope that can show others who are just as introverted as I, that leadership is something for people like them too. Of course, we all hear that anyone can be a leader. I want to be an example of that.
